Stories of Giving

Catholic Community Foundation - Burke-Healy Story

"I wanted to do something special for my mom."

When asked what prompted her to establish the Burke-Healy Family Fund in the Catholic Community Foundation, Rosemary Ciaudelli-Grace said "I wanted to make a donation in honor of my parents with some money I had inherited. When I saw the brochure on the Catholic Community Foundation, it really appealed to me because it was worthwhile and because I could put their names on it."

After meeting with staff members in the Archdiocese, to find out more about the CCF and the needs that existed in the Church, Rosemary discussed these possibilities with her mother, Mrs. Mary Frances Burke and asked her to decide how she would like to see this gift used. Having a number of priests in the family, Mrs. Burke suggested that half of the proceeds generated by this endowment be used for the On-going Formation of Clergy and the other half be used towards Priest Retirement. Mrs. Burke is the sister of the late Rev. Joseph Healy and Rev. Austin Healy, both of whom served here in the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In addition to these two uncles on her mother's side Rosemary also had an uncle on her father's side who was a Jesuit priest, Rev. David Burke, SJ and a brother-in-law, Rev. Louis Ciaudelli who served in the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. "Growing up it was just normal to have "Uncle Father Joe and Uncle Father Austin in our family. You never really appreciate blessings like this until later in life."

When Mrs. Burke found out about this fund she too wanted to make a contribution to the fund, as did one of her sons. Noted Mrs. Burke, "You don't think about people of modest means being able to establish a named family fund. I love the church and to be able to do something in some small way is appealing to me."

There are many other ministries of the Church that are in need of your financial support including tuition assistance in our catholic schools, youth ministry, outreach to the poor and many others.
